Supplements

The medicinal benefits of natural substances have been studied and applied for thousands of years. The right supplements can speed the healing process and help bring your body back into balance. They can treat illness as well as promote general health and well-being. In many parts of the world today, herbal remedies and other supplements continue to play a vital role in modern health care systems.

Ashley Dunn, A.P., C.H. is nationally board certified in both herbology and acupuncture under the Oriental Medicine Certification by NCCAOM, the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. He is trained and skilled in the use of traditional Chinese herbs, Western herbs, and homeopathic remedies. He may prescribe these supplements in a complete standalone treatment regimen or to complement acupuncture treatment, according to the individual needs of each patient.

Herbal supplements can provide a balanced alternative to harsh pharmaceuticals, but they must be taken with care

Western pharmacology is rooted in herbology—many of the drugs you’re familiar with were created to emulate the effects of herbs originally. However, drugs often carry harsh side effects that can be avoided in their natural herb forms, which remain a balanced medical product provided by the earth.

Years of study are required to fully understand the effects of herbal supplements, including herb-drug interactions and herbal contraindications. Despite their easy accessibility, herbs and other supplements can be as powerful as pharmaceuticals and should be taken with the same sense of care and importance.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, many of the supplements packaged and sold in stores contain ingredients that render them useless.

If you are currently taking any supplements, we recommend you bring them with you to your appointment with Ashley Dunn, A.P., C.H. He will be able to consult with you on the safest, most effective use of herbs and other natural supplements.
